Music - Kim Lenz is a rockabilly singer a lot like Wanda Jackson out of Los Angeles California. Kim has a great band called the Jaguars and they're touring with their throwback music and have just been featured on the TV show True Blood. Visit to give your ears a tune-up. Similar artist out of Ireland Imelda May has new music out and she's going to be one of the headliners at Viva Las Vegas rockabilly weekend this year. Oh and I can't get out of her without mentioning that a brand new audio interview with the king of rockabilly Reverend Horton Heat will appear soon at What a pleasure, stay tuned for that. In Burlesque - the Chicago Contemporary Circus Festival happens Jan.6-12, 2014. They say it'll have 5 days of workshops, 4 days of full-length contemporary circus shows, and 2 late-night cabaret style performances, with the intent of creating a new and educated audience for circus in America. Now that's a really big show (shoe). Hit for tix and details. In Detroit the Tangent Gallery will host the 2 year anniversary of Honey Bunny Variety Burlesque on Saturday Dec. 28. They're giving away prizes and doing it up right. Just stop at for more info and enjoy what Michigan has to offer in Burlesque. Comedy's The Chelsea Lately show has been featuring previous Portlander Ian Karmel who's now on staff as a writer. He did a great impression of the Wrecking Ball recently. View his laughter filled moments on her show via video when you want to chuckle. In related news Portland Oregon is having The 1st Annual Coldest and Darkest Time of the Year Comedy Spectacular with Matt Braunger, featuring Ron Funches and Ian Karmel. This whopper of a show is set to take place Friday Dec. 27 at the Mission McMenniman's Theater in the city of  hipsters. Folks, if you don't already know who these people are, let's just say you are going to have an amazing time. Matt Braunger is intrinsic in having helped create the famous Bridgetown Comedy Fest, while Ian Karmel and Ron Funches have been leaders in Portland Comedy for a long time, and recently have relocated to LA. I believe this show will be a real homecoming for them, and really wish I could make it out. Culture wise, make sure to stay abreast of happenings coming to a huge 30,000 person convention called the New Media Expo. The conference has been going on since 2007 and will handle all types of content creation learning. Rio All Suite Hotel will be the place. It sounds really fun actually for a work thingy. Visit for registration info. They got one thing right, don't come to vegas in July. It's 120, which let's face it- is inhuman.
